No getting around it: Yesterday was a fucking horrible day. The U.S. House of Representatives voted to pass the American Health Care Act (AHCA). If this bill becomes law, millions of people will lose access to affordable health care coverage. People will die, and at least 217 members of Congress are just fine with that. This bill – which many of them did not read – will not affect them or their families. Members of Congress have their own health plan, and they all seem quite satisfied with it. And yet whenever the possibility of making that plan available to their constituents ever comes up, the lack of response is deafening. The idea is treated as a joke at best.

The predictions I’ve read declare that this bill has little to no chance of passing the Senate. I hope that’s true. In the meantime, there is a list of 217 representatives with targets on their backs for the elections in 2018.
