My cats hate each other. I don’t know what to do about it. When we got our second cat, Aggie, we did the whole gradual integration routine. We kept her in a separate room and over the course of a couple of weeks slowly increased her exposure to our older cat, Smogs. Aggie, for the most part, is fine. Smogs, however, fucking hates Aggie. She follows Aggie around, corners her in tight spaces, hisses and growls for no apparent reason.
For a couple months we had relative peace, because Mandy bought this plug-in air freshener with pheromones that were supposed to make the cats calmer. It basically worked. There were still dust-ups, but nothing major. We really need to get a new one, though, because since it’s run out the girls have just been going at it. Smogs actually took a pretty good scratch to the ear a couple weeks ago. I had to clean it with peroxide.
We’ve got these collars with a similar pheromone thing going on that I think we’ll try next. Neither cat has ever worn a collar before, so I have no idea how this is going to go. Wish me luck.
The girls in a rare quiet moment. They were actually curled up next to each other, but Smogs figured out what I was doing and didn’t want photographic evidence that they ever got along.
